  1. Who can participate in this program?

    Any full-time student registered in the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, University of Lethbridge, Grant MacEwan University, Concordia University College of Alberta, NAIT or SAIT who has completed at least *45 credits (3 full-time semesters) in a degree (Undergraduate, Graduate, Applied or Collaborative degree; diploma program). Students must be in good academic standing in their program.

    Students must fulfill an Alberta residency requirement defined as:

    • born in Alberta;
    • Student who has graduated from a high school in Alberta or
    • lived in Alberta for 12 consecutive months without being a student.

  2. I'm an international student, can I participate?

    International students may apply if they fulfill the Alberta residency requirement which is:

    • born in Alberta;
    • Student who has graduated from a high school in Alberta or
    • lived in Alberta for 12 consecutive months without being a student.

  3. Can Co-op students receive Co-op credit for this internship?

    Co-op students may receive credit for this internship. University of Alberta International will provide information to the Co-op office at your home instituition to help facilitate credit evaluation for students.

  4. What services are available to me on this internship?

    Students participating on this program will be provided with a travel bursary, language learning bursary and monthly stipend which will help defray monthly living expenses. The partner office in Saxony, Germany organizes a week long intercultural immersion class and other activities for students participating in this program. Any concerns that students may have should be directed to the partner office in Saxony.

  5. Where can I go?

    The internships are within organizations within the Free State of Saxony, Germany. Major cities include Dresden and Leipzig.

  6. What can I do?

    Students will be placed in a 3.5 month internship that is related to their field of study or future career interests. Students may be placed in corporations, small businesses, research facilities, not-for-profit agencies, government offices or University offices. The partner office in Germany will match your letter of intent and application to corresponding organizations in Saxony for an entry-level position. You'll gain valuable professional and international experience as a participant on this program.

  7. How long/ when do these internships take place?

    Each placement is 3.5 months long. Positions have a varying start date and may be organized to coincide with your academic semesters.

  8. Can I also study at these universities?

    No, our agreements do not permit students to take courses at these universities. You will be able to take intensive German language courses as they will be offered by the partner office in Germany.

  9. When will I start getting paid?

    You must ensure you have access to personal savings for the duration of your internship because you may not receive your stipend immediately.

  10. What type of accommodation will I have?

    The partner office in Saxony will assist students in finding appropriate housing. Students will be accommodated in on-campus residences if the internship is located near a University. In other situations, alternative student housing may be available.

  11. Will I need a visa?

  12. Are there any language requirements?

    Students must be proficient in English; however some knowledge of German will make your internship more enjoyable. Students are eligible for a language bursary prior to departure and may take the intensive German courses offered in Saxony while participating on the internship.

  13. What is the application deadline?

    All applications must be received by July 9th 2012 at the University of Alberta.
